New system simplifies Alabama business taxes

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama businesses can now file their tax returns and pay their city, county and state sales taxes at one electronic location rather than filing multiple tax reports.

State Revenue Commissioner Julie Magee says Alabama started its One Spot system in response to businesses complaining that it was hard to do business in the state. October is the first month the system can be used for all city, county and state sales, use and rental taxes.

The state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, Rosemary Elebash, says the new system is user-friendly and it does away with the need for businesses to fill out multiple forms and meet varying deadlines.
