Convicted arsonists request early release from prison

BIBB COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Two former Birmingham college students convicted of setting nine churches on fire in 2006 are requesting an early release from prison.

Russell Debusk Jr., the accomplice for the students, was issued an early release in 2012.

Benjamin Moseley pleaded his case on Thursday in a Bibb County courtroom.

Attorneys for Moseley and Matthew Cloyd told the judge their respective clients are sorry for their actions and they are eager to leave prison so they can make a positive contribution to society.

However, prosecutors aren’t buying it.

The judge did not set a date for when he will issue a ruling on the request.
