PIEDMONT, Ala. (AP) – Piedmont Mayor Rick Freeman has announced he’s resigning from office after less than a year because of health issues.
Freeman has declined to specify what health issues he’s facing. During a meeting Wednesday, Mayor Pro Tem Bill Baker said Freeman will confirm his resignation in writing and City Council will likely hold a special meeting to accept it Friday.
The Anniston Star reports Freeman presided over a meeting two weeks ago and some were caught off guard because he said then that he’d stay in office despite his health concerns.
Freeman, who was elected in November, says a doctor’s recent diagnosis factored into his decision.
