TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) - There’s nothing like a good book, and the first graders at Paine Primary School in Trussville agree. They really enjoy hearing and reading stories on the class iPad.
Soon, they’ll be able to utilize even more iPads. Their teacher, Chrissy Mauldin, plans to buy two more of the electronic tablets.
She plans to buy them with the $1,000 she was awarded as this week’s recipient of CBS42’s One Class At A Time grant.
Not only do her students respond really well to the technology because they’re used to it, but Mauldin says software she can download on the iPads can meet the students where they are academically.
“It can help those kids that you are, you know, higher,” Mauldin said. “They can go on. We don’t have to just reach at a first grade level. We can teach our first graders at a second or third grade level, and it really pushes them in their learning.”
Mauldin’s first graders are also excelling in math and science, since the software features fun, interactive lessons.
Additionally, students can download interesting books that help to grow their love of reading.
CBS42’s co-sponsors for the One Class At A Time project are Pepsi and America’s First Financial.
