COOSA COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) – The search for Gray Godwin, who was last heard from Thursday around 6 a.m., began on the same day on Lake Martin in Coosa County.
According to authorities, Godwin was duck hunting in the area. His canoe was found Friday morning. Search and rescue teams discovered his body around 2:30 Friday afternoon.
Friends of Godwin were praying for his safe return at Trinity United Methodist Church when they received the news.
According to a youth pastor at the church, although Godwin was not a member, he often attended bible study with friends at Trinity UMC.
Former classmates also gathered for prayer in Montgomery, where Godwin’s family had recently moved from.
Alabama Marine Police are investigating the incident and will release additional information as it becomes available.
