One Class At A Time: Holly Pond Elem.

HOLLY POND, Ala. (WIAT) – June Wood has been teaching special education for more than 20 years, and she’s developed a strong bond with her students at Holly Pond Elementary School.

“If they have a disability in one area, they may be gifted in another area,” Wood said. “So we try to use those talents to make them the best students they can be.”

Wood felt her students would learn better if they had interactive textbooks, but there wasn’t enough money in the budget to buy them.

Now, though, she’ll have the funds she needs.

Wood is this week’s winner of a $1,000 grant as a part of CBS42 One Class At A Time grant program.

Since funding for special education is so scarce these days, Woods says she applies for almost every grant she sees.

She’s already won three grants this year, and those grants are helper her pay for an interactive smart board.

It’s a pattern of positive behavior from one teacher who does whatever she can to make her students succeed.

CBS42’s co-sponsors for the One Class At A Time project are Pepsi and America’s First Financial.
