Pipe bomb found in suspect’s truck

OXFORD, Ala. (WIAT) – The Oxford Police apprehended a burglary suspect on the 1400 block of Beck Road Friday afternoon. The suspect, Johnny Wade Stevens, was burglarizing a home in the 60 block of Burtram Drive earlier in the day.  Once captured, police discovered a homemade pipe bomb in Wade’s truck.

The Birmingham field office of the ATF and Jefferson County Bomb Squad were called in to assist. The bomb squad was able to detonate the bomb shortly after.

Stevens, who is from the Anniston area, is currently in custody. The investigation is listed as ongoing and there are more criminal charges pending.
