BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Richard Shahan’s bond was set at $100,000. His family had to pay at least 10% of that for Shahan to walk away. He will stay at his mother’s home, and have to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet on his leg.
In court, on Thursday, Shahan was accused of trying to flee the country to start a new life with his boyfriend. He was arrested in Nashville, earlier this month, when he tried to board a plane to Europe where he said was going for a mission trip. He was brought back to Jefferson County and has remained in jail until late Friday afternoon.
