BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Some college students are going above and beyond to honor MLK’s legacy. They’re observing an entire week of service. Fifty-two students from the University of Connecticut are spending what they call an “alternative break” in Birmingham. They’ve spent several days renovating houses. On Friday, they cleaned up George Ward Park, removing debris and weeds from the creek. They tell CBS42 they’re proud to be able to make a difference in the lives of others.

The students took a break from working Thursday to visit the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. The museum is offering free admission on Monday, for MLK Day.
