CORDOVA, Ala. (WIAT) – Cordova police arrested a tattoo artist who police say was tattooing several underage children without getting their parents’ permission. In Alabama you have to be 18 before you can get a tattoo without parental approval.

Cordova police say the tattoo artist Shelly Hunter was actually out on bond for felony drug charges. The incident allowed them to revoke her bond. She is now in the Walker County Jail.

They later found out she was smoking marijuana and snorting pills while tattooing several children at a Cordova residence, which might explain the lack of artistic skill of the badly done tattoos.

Police say if the mother had not come forward they would have had no idea what was going on in the community. Three more juveniles were confirmed to have had been tattooed by Hunter.

Luckily for Caroline Pinegar, she tested negative for hepatitis and HIV. Her mother, Malena Pinegar, wants the suspect to pay for the tattoo to be removed.
