Pro-Life supporters render Birmingham ‘abortion free’

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Hundreds gathered at Brother Bryan Park for the annual March for Life, but this year, pro-life supporters say they have something to celebrate.

“We’re here to rejoice, that we’ve gone from seven abortion centers in Birmingham, down to one, and that one is not operating” said March for Life Director Jim Pinto.

In 2012, New Women All Women on Birmingham’s Southside was closed by the Alabama Department of Health.

According to representatives at the only remaining clinic, Planned Parenthood, it’s closed temporarily while they upgrade their operations.

Because of that this year’s march is even more significant, but their fight continues.

“We have one in Tuscaloosa, but as I said, it performs 40 percent of all Alabama’s abortions and I think we get a lot of traffic for Mississippi,” said Anna Zimmerman.

The next Birmingham March for Life is set for January 17th, 2015.
