TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – The University of Alabama Facebook page reported Tuesday morning that the campus experienced a natural gas leak near the Rodgers Library. UAPD shut down 6th Avenue from Margaret Drive and Hackberry Lane to University Boulevard and Devotie Drive because of the gas line rupture. The Rodgers Library, as well as the Science and Engineering Complex and South Engineering Research Center, were evacuated as a safety precaution.
Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue and Alagasco were on the scene to repair the line. While crews continue to repair the line, the leak has been stopped. Operations are returning to normal, and classes in the evacuated buildings are set to resume at 11 am.
