BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – UPDATE: The lanes have been reopened.
ORIGINAL: A ramp bridge that leads from I-59 South to I-65 South was struck by a truck Thursday afternoon, which prompted the closing of two lanes on I-65 northbound.
According to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), the I-65 southbound outside two lanes under the bridge are closed. However, the I-65 northbound inside left lane will remain open to traffic.
Additionally, the I-65 southbound outside right lane on the bridge that passes over I-65 north will be closed until further notice. The I-65 southbound two inside left lanes will be open to traffic.
Crews are on the scene examining the damage to the bridge. Inspectors will look at the bridge’s girders to asses damage before reopening any lanes.
ALDOT says the lane closures will be in place until approximately 8 p.m.
CBS42 has a crew headed to the scene and will update with more information as it becomes available.
