Walker County family struggling to stay warm

WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — CBS42 first covered the Walker County family living with no insulation and no central heating a few weeks ago.

Towanna Glaze and her two sons are struggling.

They only have a wood burning stove to heat their entire home.

All three sleep in the living room next to the stove to keep warm.

Glaze watches over her fire each day as if her life depends on it .

She stays awake all night adding wood to the wood burning stove every 20 minutes.

“I’m exhausted and tired,” Towanna Glaze said.

To make matters worse, the family’s water pipes froze and burst, and they don’t have any money to fix them. As such, they went without water for a week.

Glaze has been using her oven to help heat the kitchen and bathroom.

The family lives on a fixed income and now they may lose their power.

Glaze says they have until Wednesday to come up with $280 or the electricity will be cut off.
