SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — The Shelby County Board of Education and Alabaster City Schools reached an agreement on new zoning lines to address children in unincorporated areas of Alabaster.

The “Alabaster Zone” includes students who live in the unincorporated areas of Alabaster who will attend Shelby County Schools next year.

Incoming kindergarten students who live in the area and current fifth graders will no longer go to Alabaster City Schools. Instead, they will go to Shelby County Schools beginning in the 2014-2015 school year.

The new students will be rezoned to Helena, Montevallo, Calera, Columbiana and a small portion of Pelham.
