Homeless help center coming to downtown Birmingham

Work center

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Operation Feed Birmingham will soon launch a new help center for the homeless in downtown Birmingham.

Volunteers spent Saturday afternoon cleaning out a newly purchased building on 9th Avenue North in preparation for contractors to come in and get the building up to code.

The center will serve as a place where the homeless can receive education and housing assistance.

“What we’re doing, we’re coming it to feed Birmingham, not just feed the hungry,” said Tiara Turner. “We’re feeding them in their mind to help rehabilitate.”

The group will work on the building every Saturday until everything has been cleared.
