BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — As crews worked hard to make sure roads were clear and motorists began making their way back to their cars, members of the National Guard hit the roads to make sure things went smoothly and safely.

They were out and about in five locations in the Birmingham area helping people get their cars back on the road.

“Originally,  trouble spots were along the I-65 and I-20 corridors, I-459 and Highway 280, but since that time, we’ve had wreckers out, Humvees with tow straps, moving vehicles out of the travel lanes and over off to the shoulder of the road,” said National Guard Liaison Col. Curtis Faulk

National Guard troops were also spotted on Highway 280.
