Tuscaloosa man allegedly stabbed to death by own brother

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – Early Saturday morning, Tuscaloosa Police responded to a reported stabbing in the 4700 block of 5th Avenue East in Tuscaloosa. Officers found 37-year-old Kenneth Darnell Sledge lying in the street with a stab wound to his chest.

Sledge was transported to DCH where he later died from his injuries. Investigators were able to determine a suspect. Fredrick Lavelle Sledge, the 39-year-old brother of Kenneth, was taken into custody by the Tuscaloosa Police. He had arrived at DCH to be treated for a slight cut on his back. After he released, police brought him in. He is currently being held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail, with bond set at $75,000.

No motive has been determined at this time, as this investigation is ongoing.
