1 dead in robbery gone awry in Gadsden

GADSDEN, Ala. (WIAT) — Police in Gadsden arrested two men in connection with the shooting death of a man in a botched robbery attempt at an apartment complex.

William Meadows, 38, was at his girlfriend’s apartment when two men knocked on the door around 7 a.m. Sunday.

According to Meadows’ girlfriend, he answered the door. Shortly thereafter, she said she heard one gunshot.

The two suspects, 19-year-old Tyree Young and 21-year-old Dexter Harris, searched a few rooms and fled the scene.

Police responded and found Meadows laying on the floor of the living room bleeding from his face and his head.

He was transported to UAB Hospital where he died around 10 p.m. Sunday evening.

Young and Harris were arrested and taken to the Etowah County Jail.

They’re expected to both be charged with capital murder on Monday.
