BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – On Tuesday, police were stopping a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of 20th Ave NE, when the passenger jumped out, and fled on foot. After a short chase, police were able to apprehend the man, later identified as 26-year-old Arthur Ross. Deputies found 210 dose units of heroin, diluadid tablets, Xanax tablets, “Molle” and the prescription drug Suboxone on Ross. He was also in possession of a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
Police also found the driver, 32-year-old Antonio Purdom, was in possession of marijuana, prescription cough syrup and scales. Purdom also had several outstanding arrest warrants.
Arthur Ross was charged with Trafficking Heroin and 4 counts of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. Antonio Purdom was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. Both men are in the Jefferson County Jail with Ross’s bonds totaling $85,000, and Purdom’s set at $36,000.
