BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Heart disease is called the silent killer, and in Alabama it’s the number one killer of both men and women.
The good news is there are steps you can take to reduce your risk.
Doctors say a healthy diet and exercise are key to preventing heart disease.
It’s also important to be screened for diabetes and high blood pressure.
After undergoing life-saving heart surgery, June Cooper knows how important it is to take preventative measures.
“I feel like I have a new lease on life,” Cooper said. “I’m ready to be one of those grandmas – be out there trying to do a line dance.”
If you would like to get screened for heart disease, St. Vincent’s Health System is offering four heart tests.
The testing will take place on Feb. 15.
