BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Surrounded by broken glass and clipped car parts–a baby, firefighter, and public works employee were transported to local hospitals on Friday. It all started with an early morning call from Roosevelt Court Way Southwest, where a 3 month old baby girl wasn’t breathing.
It was on the way to Children’s Hospital when the ambulance crashed. Fire station recruits were out doing their fitness tests when they heard the crash. They quickly moved the baby to another ambulance. Both of the drivers involved also had minor injuries.
Investigators say the wreck, or the time it took to switch ambulances didn’t factor in to the baby’s death.
