Traffic Alert: Road conditions for Feb. 13th

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The winter weather has caused problems for some roads around Central Alabama. Here is the latest on road conditions from CBS42’s News Team located around the area.

A message from the EMA:

Numerous roadways, both major through fares and lesser traveled roadways, are extremely hazardous and in some cases impassable. These conditions will persist through the overnight hours. The county emergency management agencies request that travel be limited to emergencies only for your safety and the safety of first responders.


  • All streets within Anniston are open, with the exception of Bains Gap.


  • Governor Bentley: Drivers in the B’ham area are urged to get off the roads ASAP due to hazardous snow conditions. If you are at a safe place, stay there


  • Blount County EMA: The bridge on US 231 going into Cleveland is iced over

Calhoun County

  • Roads considered hazardous

Cherokee County

  • Roads considered hazardous


  • Blount County EMA: The bridge on US 231 going into Blountsville is iced over


  • Cullman EMA: Road conditions still hazardous. Delay travel until at least mid-morning. Some power outages remain but crews are working to restore service


  • Due to hazardous conditions, all streets in the City of Fairfield have been deemed impassable and have been closed.


  • Gardendale Police: We’re going to go ahead and call the streets open at this time. There’s still icing on overpasses, less traveled roads and shaded areas. We strongly recommend waiting to travel for another hour but if you must, please exercise caution.


  • Heflin Police: All City of Heflin roads are officially open and the countywide curfew has been lifted.


  • Helena Police: All city roads are passable this morning. We ask everyone to drive very carefully and slowly if you must drive this morning. There still could be isolated icy spots on area roadways


  • Hueytown Police have closed all roads due to hazardous road conditions.


  • Irondale PD: Please stay off the roads until 10:00AM, if possible

Locust Fork

  •  All roads in Locust Fork are impassable .


  • City streets closed due to hazardous road conditions.


  • Oneonta city streets have been deemed impassable.


  • Roads in Oxford have now reopened.


  • All roads in the Snead area are impassable, according to the Snead Police Department.

Vestavia Hills

  • VHPD: The road conditions in Vestavia Hills are becoming impassable and dangerous. The Vestavia Hills Police Department is officially closing all roads at this time.

Walker County 

  • Walker Co has deemed all secondary roads impassable.

Winston County

  • The Winston County Commission has closed all roads throughout the county, due to hazardous conditions.
