Florists glad winter storm, snow cleared up

JASPER, Ala. (WIAT) — Florists have also had a rough time dealing with the weather, especially with this last round of snowfall being so close to Valentine’s Day.

Everything is coming up roses now that winter storms have left the Jasper area.

Thursday was “the day” for florists — one of their biggest money-making holidays of the year.

Leaf and Petal owner Anna Daniel says everything must go like clockwork.

Workers are making crucial last minute preparations on the hundreds of orders the night before Valentine’s Day. After that, road conditions for deliveries are the final hurdle.

“It would have been extremely devastating because we do a lot of deliveries out in the county, and here at the Jasper City School System as well,” Daniel said. “So if schools would have been closed Friday it would have been very bad for [Leaf and Petal], so we’re very glad it came a couple of days before Valentine’s Day so it can clear out of here.”

She says the loss would have been in the thousands of dollars for area florists.
