BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — As the snow made its way out of Alabama and the remnants melted away, many in Alabama were quick to note how uncommon it is for Alabama to receive as much snow as it has over the past three weeks.
The snowy stretch began on January 28, 2014, when snow fell in Birmingham and many other areas a bit unexpectedly and left many problems to be dealt with across the state.
Motorists were stranded, and many chose to leave their cars on the side of the road and walk to a warm place. Some couldn’t make it home and spent the night in stores, restaurants or hotel lobbies.
Then, only a few weeks later, a second wave of ice and snow hit Alabama, this time without nearly as many issues.
Here’s a look at the snowy past few weeks in central Alabama.
