Art for a cure

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center will be hosting their annual ArtBlink event on Saturday, February 22nd.

The idea behind the event is to watch artists create a work of art in ninety minutes and then auction it off.

Gary Chapman and Paul Ware wanted to participate, but found a way to avoid the stress of creating art under pressure.

For the last six weeks, they have been collecting tags to help create their work of art. Each tag has someone’s name who has been diagnosed with cancer on one side with a message written on the other.

Ware and Chapman have received more than 6,000 tags to be a part of their piece of art.

The men have also found a way to still participate in the core idea of ArtBlink. There will be tags available at the event for those in attendance to add to the piece.
