MONTEVALLO, Ala. (WIAT) — President’s Day is a day we celebrate men like George Washington. His military background makes it a fitting day to unveil a shrine for our veterans.
The National Veteran’s Shrine, which is on display at the American Village in Montevallo, was officially dedicated Monday afternoon. Inside the shrine is soil from battlefields all across the world. The soil is there to help remind everyone of all of the sacrifices given by this country’s service men and women from all generations.
“I think you’ll see in the shrine poignant faces. Faces that tell stories of what these men and women went through. In war and in peace, they all served and sacrificed.” –Melanie Poole, American Village
The crowd for the dedication was filled with veterans, including four men who fought at the Battle of the Bulge during World War II.
