BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – “Bama Students for Life” is a pro-life group claiming the University of Alabama is violating its first amendment rights.
The group says they reserved a display case at the University’s Ferguson Student Center to showcase a poster about abortion. The poster contained pictures of dead women and babies, and was taken down after several complaints.
The pro-life group says they were not notified in advance of its removal.
“Our group was absolutely offended that we would be censored in that way. we have a right to free speech and that right was taken by the university because someone felt that was offensive,” said a member of the group.
The University of Alabama responded to the issue with the following statement: “The University of Alabama respects our students’ first amendment rights to express their opinions. As a result of this incident, we are reviewing our guidelines for the display boards in the student center.”
