BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Two separate shooting in Birmingham Tuesday evening sent two children to Children’s Hospital.
According to Lt. Edwards with the Birmingham Police Department, a 6-year-old was shot in the foot and was taken to Children’s to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
A 3-year-old was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Children’s with life-threatening injuries. The child is now in stable condition following surgery.
Lt. Edwards says the 6-year-old found a gun inside his parent’s car while his parent went inside a restaurant to get food. He accidentally shot himself in the foot.
The 3-year-old found a gun at a home on the 600 block of Brussell Circle and shot himself in the abdomen.
