BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Fire crews in Birmingham are on the scene of a two-alarm commercial fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon at Lomb Avenue and 15th Street.
According to Chief C.W. Mardis with the Birmingham Fire Department, two ladder trucks, two rescue units and six engines responded to the fire at the ABM Auto Parts building, which started around 2:30 p.m.
Neighbors say they heard a loud boom around that time, which was caused by numerous propane cylinders exploding inside the shop.
The building had 16 cars inside at the time of the fire. Four hundred gallons of motor oil caused black smoke to billow into the sky.
No injuries were reported,
Fire officials believed the fire was caused by a welding accident.
