Humane Society honors dog fighting investigators

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Officials from the Humane Society of the United States are in Montgomery to recognize five people for their roles in one of the nation’s largest dog fighting investigations.

The organization announced it is presenting its Humane Law Enforcement Awards to U.S. Attorney George Beck, Assistant U.S. Attorney Clark Morris, investigator Keith Baker with the state attorney general’s office, two FBI agents and an Auburn police officer for their roles in the investigation. The ceremony is at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The investigation last year led to the arrest of 13 people from Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Texas and the seizure of 367 pit bulls. That number quickly grew to more than 400 because some of the dogs were pregnant and had puppies.
