Father of girl “run to death” files malpractice lawsuit; Garrard’s bond denied

GADSDEN, Ala. (WIAT) — New information in the case of a nine-year-old girl who investigators say was “run to death.” The Gadsden Times is reporting that the father of Savannah Hardin is filing a malpractice lawsuit against Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Savannah Hardin was taken there after she collapsed in 2012. Her grandmother is accused of forcing the girl to run for hours as punishment for lying.

Savannah’s father, Robert Lee Hardin, is claiming treatment the hospital gave contributed to the girl’s death. The suit says a doctor and nurse acted negligently or recklessly in their treatment.

Savannah died the next day after being taken to Children’s of Alabama. Her grandmother is charged with murder in the case.

Joyce Garrard was in court Friday morning in Etowah County for a hearing.

A motion for bond was denied by the judge.
