Northport podiatrist surrenders practice amid bogus prescription allegations

NORTHPORT, Ala. (WIAT) — A Northport podiatrist voluntarily surrendered his practice after multiple pharmacies issued complaints that he was writing bogus prescriptions.

Dr. David Robinson voluntarily surrendered his license to practice podiatry in Alabama on Feb. 14.

“I acknowledge that I have committed violations of the Alabama Podiatry Practice Act that will likely result in disciplinary action against my license, including revocation of my license,” Robinson said in a voluntary surrender statement.

As many as 14 people have been identified as participants in receiving and filling Lortab and Adderall prescriptions.

No charges have been filed at this time, but they are expected to be presented to a grand jury in the coming months.

“Prescription drug abuse is a very serious problem in the United States,” said Sgt. Brent Blankley with the Tuscaloosa Police Department. “The West Alabama Narcotics Task Force will continue to investigate any leads they receive concerning fraudulent distribution of prescription medication.”

CBS42 will have more on this story as information becomes available.
