ONEONTA, Ala. (WIAT) –   Someone is attacking animals in East Alabama.
There have been three reports in three towns in three weeks time.
The first report came from Oxford on Feb. 5 where two horses were found dead.
Then the next day dozens of goats and sheep were slaughtered in Ohatchee.
Now an investigation is underway in Oneonta where two exotic animals were found shot to death.
The exotic animals are zebras raised on a farm there.
The Sherrod family has a total of five zebras.
Now, the herd is down to three.
Quint Sherrod discovered the two dead animals Saturday morning while taking some friends out to check on the herd.
He says he can’t imagine why anyone would intentionally go out and do something like this.
“My mom and sisters are all torn up about it, but it’s definitely bizarre and I don’t know why somebody would do something like that. It’s just a strange world we live in I guess.”
Sherrod says a veterinarian performed an autopsy on the two zebras Saturday evening.
His family is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who has information on the person who killed the animals.
They also filed a police report.
Meanwhile police in Oxford plan to follow up with the family to determine if this case is connected to their case earlier this month,
