Councilman Parker looks to redevelop the Carraway Hospital area

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Another change for the area would be turning the old Carraway Hospital into a development to house municipal offices like the police and fire departments.

That’s the plan Birmingham City Councilman William Parker is proposing. Parker wants to redevelop the 53 acre area to also include commercial stores, lots of green space and a dog park. It would cost the city around $40 million, but Parker says that area needs something to rejuvenate it.

“We feel like this is our Railroad Park, this is our Crossplex, and this is our Regions Park so this will help revitalize the Norwood, North Birmingham community.” -William Parker, Birmingham City Council

The next step for Councilman Parker is to gain support from other council members and the mayor.
