Gadsden City Council approves pay increase for mayor

GADSDEN, Ala. (WIAT) — The Gadsden City Council approved a resolution Tuesday to increase the mayor’s salary. The resolution will increase the mayor’s salary to $98,764.64.

It sets the mayor’s salary three percent higher than the highest base salary for city employees, which is $95,888.88, according to the city council.

City employees may still earn more than the mayor’s salary due to longevity pay.

Council employee salaries are tied to the mayor’s salary. The president receives 12 percent of the salary provided for the mayor plus $100 for one regular council meeting each week.

Each other council member receives 9.6 percent of the mayor’s salary plus $100 for one regular meeting each week.
