MIDFIELD, Ala. (WIAT) — February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Vital Smiles in Midfield is reminding parents about the importance of dental hygiene. Like all things, you want to start at an early age so children can get used to it. At home, you can be a great example by showing them how to brush and floss on a regular basis, ideally three times a day for two full minutes. You should also avoid sugary drinks and foods.
“You want to make it a positive experience for your child. You always look at shows on tv that talk about someone going to the dentist for their first visit or books at a library. Introduce your child to that. Make them excited to come see us and then it’s a more rewarding experience for everyone.” –Dr. John Rose, Vital Smiles
Dr. Rose says it’s important for children to know that the dentist is their friend and part of their growing up experience. Just like adults, they should have routine check-ups every six months.
