Daycare worker arrested for child abuse

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. — (WIAT) A daycare worker is out on bond facing aggravated child abuse charges. Investigators allege 41 year old Karen Lynn Rowland began cursing and screaming at two 4-year-olds who were in her care the week of February 10th.  In addition to cursing the children, police say she actually hit one with a folder and slammed the other child’s head against a table.

“I can’t begin to imagine how anyone would consider hurting a child who has been entrusted to their care…My office will continue to defend children and adults who are defenseless and will do our best to see that the abuser serves an appropriate sentence.” - Sheriff Todd Entrekin, Etowah County Sheriff’s Office

According to a release from the Etowah County Sheriff’s office, the victims’ families took action and reported Rowland after learning of the incident. District Attorney Jimmy Harp says incidents like these requires a rapid response from the community.  He goes on to add the importance of reporting incidents like this to put an end to further abuse.

Rowland was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center after the Tuesday arrest.  She’s since been released on a $10,000 bond.
