BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WAIT) — The Northern Beltline project is expected to take 30 years and billions of dollars to complete, and Phase One of the project began Thursday.
The first phase involves about a 1.3 mile stretch of road between U.S. 75 and U.S. 79.
Crews began moving trees and debris near Self Creek in the Kimberly area.
“We’ve started putting up sign, and that’s where we are,” said Mike Mahaffey. “We’re in the very beginning phases of the project.”
Much of the project depends on weather cooperating, but Mahaffey says if all goes according to plane, the first phase could be finished by Fall of 2016.
