MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) — It’s a prospect many newer educators face each year, teacher layoffs. State lawmakers are pushing a bill that would limit seniority when it comes to deciding which teachers are laid off. The bill is sponsored by Republican Ed Henry.
Henry says schools should work to keep the best teachers, and seniority should not be the top consideration when deciding who is cut.
The AEA says seniority is not the most important criteria when making those decisions.
