CHELSEA, Ala. (WIAT) — Paige Prine loves reading to her kindergarten students at Chelsea Park Elementary School.
Judging by their reactions, they enjoy her storytelling just as much.
The story should have a happy ending, too! Prine is this week’s recipient of a $1,000 grant as a part of CBS42’s One Class At A Time program.
Prine wants her students to have a love of reading, and so she wants to buy them puppets so they can make the stories come alive.
“The children will just retell the story and just tell the whole story exactly the way it happened – from the beginning, to the middle, to the end – and it just gives them a love for books,” Prine said.
Since state funding is limited, most schools can only buy the basic educational supplies.
Prine says that’s why she’s so grateful to get help from the community.
“For the extra things we need in the classroom and for technology we really are looking to the communities for money and supplies,” Prine said.
CBS42’s co-sponsors for the One Class At A Time project are Pepsi and America’s First Financial.
