Tuscaloosa mother jailed on child endangerment charge

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — A woman accused of abandoning her newborn at DCH Regional Medical Center five months ago is back in jail and facing a chemical endangerment charge.

Kacie Blankenship and her child tested positive for drugs, according to police.

Blankenship disappeared hours after birth, but not before giving hospital administrators a fake name and social security number.

Surveillance videos and separate arrests gave Tuscaloosa police all they needed to identify and charge her.

She’s being held on a $15,000 bond.

The child remains in state custody.
