BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — One place in Birmingham continues to stand tall as an everlasting monument to the triumphs from the civil rights struggle. Rickwood Field opened in 1910, and played host to several Negro League teams throughout its rich history.
Greats like Hank Aaron and Willie Mays graced its dirt, playing a game, while fighting a battle. That historical significance is celebrated every year with the Rickwood Classic. This year’s game will be played on June 25th.
