Suspect arrested at gunpoint in Cullman County after fatal shooting

CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) – Law enforcement  in Cullman County arrested a suspect at gunpoint Sunday afternoon in connection with a shooting that left one dead in the Berlin community, according to Chief Mike Rainey with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office.

Rainey says police responded to reports of a shooting around 1 p.m. Sunday and arrived to find a 32-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her abdomen.

The suspect had fled the scene by the time officers, arrived, but police used a helicopter and located his car stuck on a road near Holly Pond.

Police found the 33-year-old male suspect in a creek and took him into custody.

He was taken to a hospital on a possible drug overdose.
