CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A Cullman County man is behind bars in connection with the shooting death of a Blount County woman Sunday.
Sheriff Mike Rainey says 33-year-old Patrick Stallings, who lives in the Berlin community, is accused of shooting 32-year-old Britni Lynn Champagne in the abdomen with a 12-gauge shotgun during a domestic violence dispute.
The shooting happened just before 1 p.m. Sunday at his home located at 4140 Highway 271 East.
Rainey says An 11-year-old child was a witness to the shooting.
Champagne was airlifted to a Huntsville hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The sheriff and other members of the department tracked Stallings to the Mulberry River area south of Holly Pond known as “the bend.” He was located using the Cullman City police helicopter.
Stallings was taken into custody at about 3 p.m. The shotgun was found nearby.
Rainey said Stallings apparently made several phone calls threatening to harm other people around the time of the shooting.
The child is in protective custody today.
