Helping teens to drive safer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — With the arrival of spring break, the amount of teen drivers on the road increases.

In addition to paying attention to who’s in the car next to you, experts say parents can do a few things to encourage their teen driver to be careful. The Department of Public Safety suggests taking a few minutes to go over traffic laws with your teen:

  • Remind to wear seat belts
  • Focus on the road
  • Don’t text and drive
  • Go over Alabama’s graduated driver license law.
  • Discourage driving with friends in the car.
