Parent pepper-sprayed, arrested following altercation at Carver High School

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A parent was sprayed with Mace and arrested Thursday following a fight at George Washington Carver High School in Birmingham, according to the Birmingham Police Department.

Lt. Edwards with the Birmingham Police Department says a group of ninth-grade girls have been fighting all week long. Four girls were arrested Wednesday following a fight and four adults were charged with a fray.

Carver High SchoolOn Thursday, the altercations continued. A fight broke out around 7:30 a.m. before officers were at the school.

Four girls were arrested following the fight, and a parent showed up with another child who does not go to Carver High School to file a police report . Edwards says the parent felt his daughter was being harassed.

While waiting to file the report, the bell rang and classes changed. With students in the hallways between classes, the child who doesn’t attend George Washington Carver High School recognized someone and got into another fight.

An altercation broke out in the main lobby and the parent was involved.

Edwards says an assistant principal tried to break up the scuffle, but the parent then went after the assistant principal.

As a result, the father was sprayed with Mace and arrested.

He faces a disorderly conduct charge.

Edwards says all of the students involved in the fight will be dealt with internally.
