UAB students help kids write letters

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Some Birmingham elementary school students are getting a special gift this month – the gift of imagination.

It’s being given to them from college students in a lesson at Inglenook Elementary School.

Students were given the opportunity to write a letter to themselves 20 years in the future.

Each week, UAB English students are presenting topics like this to get each child to look at the world differently.

They’re encouraged to recognize that they can use their imagination to go anywhere and be anything.

“It’s interesting to see these kids kind of take an idea and run with it,” said Peyton Chandler. “You have some kids that go one way, some kids go another way. I think they’re all getting a lot out of it for sure.”

Once the project is finished, the students’ stories will be made into books just for them.
