BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A former Alabama football star is back in town and he’s giving back to the community. CBS42 caught up with Heisman Trophy winner, Mark Ingram, as he helped fight hunger. Ingram volunteered his time at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama.
The current New Orleans Saint helped pack food for the Weekender’s Backpack Program. He says it’s always fun to come back and give back.
“I think everybody should have a chance to have meals when they go home. Just knowing that we’re helping them right now, being able to pack them food means a lot. We’re just helping them. Hopefully they know there’s people that care about them and want to help them out.” -Mark Ingram
Mark and the other volunteers helped fill backpacks with nutritious food. The backpacks are delivered to schools and given to students to take home on weekends and holidays when the students may not have enough food at home.
