BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Morning rush hour traffic on I-20/59 in downtown Birmingham can be a headache, but soon it may be much worse.
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) says the I-20/59 bridges need to be replaced.
ALDOT plans to replace the elevated road between 31st Street North and I-65.
Traffic will be redirected along 11th Avenue North behind the BJCC.
The project will take more than a year to complete. A public hearing on the project will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The hearing will be held at St. James Missionary Baptist Church on 24th Street North in Birmingham.
